Well, we finally made it to Atlantis - kid heaven! (But between you and me, the adults were quite content hanging out on Rose Island!) Atlantis is quite the place - I highly recommend it for those of you with kids or just extra money lying around that you'd like to spend - they will help you spend that money quite well. As much as we love the anchoring life, we do enjoy Atlantis. The water park is incredible! The rides are thrilling for both kids and adults, and we always have a blast!
While we were in Nassau, we hired a driver to show us around the city. We learned about the history of the Bahamas and that it became its own nation only 40 years ago. We explained their flag: the blue on top represents the sky the yellow is the sun, the blue on bottom is the beautiful waters and the black represents the people and their determined solidarity.
He took us to the Queen's Staircase which indicates a stair for every year of Queen Victoria's reign when they were still a British colony.
He drove us all around showing us the ghetto" (his words), where the upper middle class lived, and a method of saving called Asseu whereby a group of people get together, put in a hundred dollars a week and each week, one person gets the whole "pot" which rotates through all participants. It's how many people buy/build their homes in Nassau, he explained.
Sadly, the beautiful Gadjo family ended their stay with us in Atlantis. We LOVED having them cruise with us ("it's not the rum")! Rob, Scilla, Sam and Olivia are really the perfect cruising family and truly wonderful friends! We are honored that they chose to spend their vacation time with us. We love you guys and can't wait to do it all again!!!!!
The Metro's are off to Allen's Cay to see the iguanas.
Life is good at the end of an anchor!
