WE MADE IT!!!!!!
And it is utterly spectacular!!!!
So let me back up a few days . . .
May 8
The Gadjo Family (Rob, Scilla, Sam and Olivia) and the Metro Family left Key Biscayne just before dawn. The journey was not quite the calm seas we would have liked; seas consisted of 3-5 rollers from the North. When we finally arrived in Bimini, we checked in through customs. It was official - we were in the Bahamas! Our first order of business was to find local rum (priorities) and Bimini bread ("You have to go to Charlie's, mon, you can't miss it, it's just down the way." About a mile of walking through "town" we found Charlie's, bought all the bread she had and returned to Lady Enna. After anchoring nearby, we all dived in to the most beautiful crystal clear water! After burgers on the grill and rum in our tummies, we settled in for some much needed rest.
May 9
Spent the day snorkling an old cement ship from WWII, diving, swimming, and doing all those beautiful water Bahama things you're supposed to do. And then Nick found us a truly remarkable place to anchor for the night called Honeymoon Harbor. It was the kind of place you wouldn't expect to find - an uninhabited white sand island where rays swarmed your feet off the beach and where nurse sharks roamed around our boys as they swam.
May 10
Woke up to a thunder storm which did a great job of cleaning off all the accumulated salt. Headed out to Chubb Island (part of the Berry Islands). A bit of a rocky ride but tolerable. Chub had some pretty scenary, some nice houses, a little wildlife but a safe refuge on our way to Nassau.
May 11
Decided to leave Chub and head to Nassau. You won't believe it, but we hooked a Blue Marlin (no we didn't land it). It was absolutely beautiful! Found a stunningly beautiful anchorage next to two reefs and a beautiful white sandy beach. Gilligan's Island (yep, that one) was the next island over. Spent an incredible two days snorkling, walking the beach, and simply taking in the completely brilliant scenary! And had a most memorable Mother's Day - boys spelled out "Happy Mother's Day" on the beach, and we were treated to breakfast and a full day of being waited on - ahhhhhhhh!!!!!
May 13
Arrived in Atlantis! This place is another "mega-land" full of 150 foot boats, massive Chihuly's hanging in the impressively large hotel. It's also Kid Heaven (regardless of your age!) - we've jumped into The Abyss, tumbled down the Leap of Faith, rolled down the Power Tower, and relaxed on the rapid river.
