Yep, that pretty much sums up our weekend in Philadelphia! We headed to Philly Thursday to spend time with Nick's aunt/uncle, cousins, so the kids could play with the 2nd-cousins-twice-removed-in-laws (okay, I'm being silly, but I think we figured out that Nick's cousin's children are Nick's cousins once removed and the kids are second cousins to each other - is that right?).
Uncle Dave and Aunt Janet were exceptional and gracious hosts allowing us to overwhelm their beautiful home and even taking us to the train station so we could "do" New York City for Friday.
My totally hip and incredibly nice Uncle Johnny (John to his friends) picked us up at the train station for a trip on the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty (very cool!). After which the rain started, a car rear-ended us (and then left the scene), and then we sat and sat in gridlock traffic trying to head back up to the restaurant for a fantastic night with our fabulous friends Ed and Karri Lucas with their three beautiful and very intelligent children, Brock, Sydney and Jake.
After dinner, we walked from 57th on 7th to see Times Square at night (which was amazing!), switched over to Broadway where I remembered you all at Herald Square. In Times Square, there's a ToysRUs with a ferris wheel inside. The kids and I rode it and then went and did a little toy shopping with the $5 Aunt Janet gave each child (nope, it doesn't come close to buying anything, mom and dad kicked in). What's remarkable about the shopping experience . . . it was at 10:30 at night! The bedtime general has disappeared leaving crazy-sure-let's-shop-in-the-middle-of-the-night mom!
The rest of the weekend in Philly with Cousin Sue and husband Rob (or is it cousin Rob in-law twice removed?) and kids Zach and Mattie was absolutely perfect! The cousins played non-stop and the adults talked non-stop. We were also able to stop by cousins Mike and Pam's absolutely gorgeous house for a little pool party with their kids Evan and Ella. Rob and Sue deserve a special thanks for putting us up (or is it "putting up with us"?) in their totally fabulous home. THANK YOU!
So finally we are, in Nicholas' words, safely back in Solomons on our boat. Doing projects and getting ready for this weekend when we'll see my long-time friend Suzanne and her family as well as our great friends, The Rileys, who are up from St. Pete.
Life is good at the end of an anchor (even if it is pulled up)!
